Good day everyone, welcome back to school life (to most members!). There's a huge snow storm today in Montreal, I was stuck in the house. To fight my boreness I typed in a Breeders interview I had on tape. Please don't pay attention to the spelling, I'm glad I took the effort to type it in, it's really funny. I encourage other members to do the same, I'm sure some members are fast at typing. Enjoy!
JOSEPHINE: Before recording Last Splash, we toured America for two month. This was last autumn, where we played the songs, working them out live. Kim wanted to play the songs, be able to get out there and sing those songs and know that she was going to feel cool... you know singing a particular line and not feel dumb about singing it in front of .. you know .. 500 people. And that kinda shaped the songs. You know by going out there performing live, seeing what worked and what didn't. After this we were in studio for three month, making this album, so its totally different.
CLAUDE: (Asking Jim) You were a friend of Kim?
JIM: Huh.. We both lived in Dayton. Me and my old band constantly tried to get Kim down to see one of our shows. So one night she did and that's how I met her.
JOSEPHINE: Yhea, the story is: Kim and Kelly went down and saw Jim play, they liked the way he played drums, so they stolled him, they just stolled him from his old band.
CLAUDE: And Jim, how does it feel to be the only male in the band?
JIM: Oh....
CLAUDE: Are you the sex-symbol of the formation?
JOSEPHINE: (laughing) Yhea, we keep on asking him to take off his shirt...
JIM: Yhea I just get used. I'm just a piece of flesh...
CLAUDE: The revenge of women...
JIM: It's really fun going on stage with them, cause there's really no big egos between all four of us. So we just like to go out, have wild fun and interact with the crowd a lot.
CLAUDE: There's the twin sister, Kelly. What was she doing before joining The Breeders?
JOSEPHINE: She was a computer analyst.
CLAUDE: Really, she must be really happy now...
JOSEPHINE: I think she never wants to look back... I mean Kelly 'IS' a Rock 'n Roll animal. She's far more rock 'n roll then all the rest of us.
JIM: She's a Rock Goddess.
JOSEPHINE: She's been doing this way of life for like a year now...
CLAUDE: Yhea she's just like Kim, her twin sister...
JOSEPHINE: She's way worst than Kim, she parties so hard, you wouldn't believe it!
JIM: Kelly "The Party Animal"...
JOSEPHINE: She wont be partying very hard tonight though, because she excelled last night in Ottawa. She can only do it on alternate days. Yes it's quite amazing, makes me tired just watching her.
CLAUDE: What about your work with Kim Gordon, for the shooting of Cannonball?
JOSEPHINE: Yhea, that came about because we had just came out of the studio and we were thinking: 'God! We have to make a video now!' Which is a rather frightening thought...
CLAUDE: Really?
JOSEPHINE: Yhea! Making videos is so stupid, it's such a dumb thing to do. You know were a rock band, were not actors...
CLAUDE: But you don't have to act?
JOSEPHINE: No... but what do you do? Either you do a performance video, or you do a short film. And either way it's hard not to look stupid. You know... I try and avoid watching MTV, because it just depresses me so much.
