World: Asia: MeccaThe birthplace of Mohammed, and the most holy city in Islam. At the time of the annual pilgrimage, the city's population swells from 50,000 to nearly 200,000 [1901]. The city is off-limits to non-Muslims-- an infidel who is caught in Mecca forfeits his life. [JT]EMPT: After visiting Tibet, Holmes travelled here during the Great Hiatus.
